What is aerial layering?
Aerial layering is a type of vegetative propagation practiced directly on a plant. Many houseplants are thus marcotted, notably rubber, but also plants which are difficult to cut, such as wisteria, maple, apple, lilac, hibiscus or viburnum. This method can also be interesting for bonsai lovers who will find there a way to obtain a well rooted branch in a faster way than with the sowing.
This technique consists in making an incision on a stem and surrounding it with a humid culture substrate in order to induce the formation of roots. The marcotte will then be detached from the mother plant to continue its life independently.
